The Fine-Tuned Universe – By Dana Peters

A friend of mine belongs to a group called The Ottawa Skeptics. Their web site is pretty interesting, being a rather large collection of articles and presentations regarding pretty much everything … at least, everything about which there might be a reason to be skeptical :-)

I’m not even sure if there is anything that we can take 100% for granted, so I would expect to see pretty much anything on this site. I plan to explore it more thoroughly now that I’ve found it.

Anyway, Dana gave a presentation a short while ago to the group at something called a SkeptiCamp in Ottawa. This was the first-ever such event, described as:

SkeptiCamps are informal, community-organized conferences borne from the desire for people to share and learn in an open environment. Everyone from casual skeptics to the experienced participate, give talks and get to know each other.

You can further view their explanations on the SkeptiCamp Ottawa page. The coolest part of this camp is that Skeptic groups in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Toronto held SkeptiCamps on the same day.

The video is on Vimeo and has this as its description:

In this presentation for SkeptiCamp Ottawa, Dana Peters describes the mystery of how the Universe appears to be finely tuned for life, and some possible explanations.

I encourage you to watch this. I found it really interesting and entertaining. His production values are through the roof, which I always enjoy seeing.
